Osteopathy
with Northside Therapies
Osteopathy is an allied health profession that uses hands on treatment to help correct restrictions in the tissues of the body.
Accidents, poor posture, repetitive strain, birth trauma and pregnancy are common causes of tension in the muscles, restriction of joint movement, poor circulation and more. These restrictions may show themselves as symptoms such as: back pain, neck pain, headaches or migraines, arm or leg pain, sciatica and joint pain.
Alternatively, restrictions may not cause pain but appear as restrictions in a range of motion, for example, not being able to raise the arm overhead.
Osteopaths use hands on techniques to treat the person, not just the symptom. So if pain is holding you back it’s time to act.
How Do Osteopaths Treat?
Osteopaths use a range of hands-on techniques to address restrictions in the tissues of the body.
There is a large range of techniques from massage style muscle release, to articulating joints to improve range of motion.
Some techniques involve very gentle hand placement on the body and the patients may not feel very much occurring.
Techniques are selected based on the presenting symptoms, tissue restrictions, age and health of the patient as well as patient preference.
By having a large selection of techniques available, we are able to provide treatment to suit all members of the community, from babies to the elderly.
Our osteopaths will develop an individual treatment plan in consultation with you. They will explain the aim of each technique as well as the longer-term management of your complaint.
Osteopaths may also give advice on posture, exercises and diet or refer to other health practitioners should you require further management or investigations.
What Do Osteopaths Treat?
At Northside Therapies we treat the person not the symptom.
Osteopaths have undertaken extensive study of the anatomy and biomechanics of the human body. This, along with our trained palpation skills, allows us to assess the body as a whole. We are then able to identify where restrictions in the body, may be contributing to symptoms that the patient feels.
Osteopaths can assess and treat areas from the head to the toes. This means that patients may present with a large variety of symptoms.
Commonly patients present with the following:
